The Something Special Big Band

Something Special – known for its ‘Basie style’ – is considered to be one of the finest swing and jazz bands around! The band has been featured at many of the major music and jazz festivals throughout the New York metropolitan area and has accompanied Count Basie band leader, Frank Foster, jazz trumpeter, Clark Terry, and internationally famous bassist Percy Heath in live concert appearances.

The band, which has six recordings to date, features a lineup of stellar professional musicians – five saxophones, four trombones, four trumpets, and a full rhythm section! Something Special bandmembers have performed with great swing bands including Buddy Rich, Lionel Hampton, and Count Basie. The band plays a variety of big band music, from nostalgia to contemporary swing and, in addition to its accomplished instrumentalists, features two talented blues singers.
