The Newcomer is a multimedia community art project that explores cultural pride within the Korean diaspora. Through participatory art-making, a short animation, and interactive digital art, the project challenges fixed notions of culture, embraces its fluidity, and reimagines cultural pride through the lens of amalgamation. The art-making process will bring together diasporic participants to reflect on their heritage through discussions about culturally significant foods.

This project is a part of the What Can We Do? Artist Grant program, presented by Asian American Arts Alliance (A4) and is supported by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council. Special thanks to Council Members Christopher Marte and Sandra Ung.
