Sounds of Sanctuary: An immersive installation at Queens Botanical Garden

Experience Sounds of Sanctuary, a multi-part project that explores the intersections of sound, memory and community care for AAPI birth workers and birthing people by artist and doula Florence Cecile Camacho Almeda. In the spring of 2025, Florence led one-on-one meditation sessions for AAPI birth workers & birthing people, guiding participants in envisioning their safe, calm place. Inspired by these sessions, she produced custom meditative soundscapes to bring participants’ safe, calm places to life.
The project culminates in a one-day immersive audio installation of these soundscapes at the Queens Botanical Garden Auditorium, a listening space for the public to connect & unwind.
Tea & refreshments will be served.
This project is a part of the What Can We Do? Artist Grant program, presented by Asian American Arts Alliance (A4) and is supported by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council. Special thanks to Council Members Christopher Marte and Sandra Ung.
