Once again, we gather to share the spoken/written word!
Past themes have included the history & experience of living in Queens, Earth Month, young student poets, cultural diversity & bi-lingual works…
Please join us to share poems—yours or of a favorite poet—along these lines, or whatever theme(s) you like, as focus this year will be on just gathering as a community around poetry. We welcome attendees joining to listen only, as well!
INSTRUCTIONS TO ATTEND (readers & to listen only, too):
2) Enter your name + email address.
3) You will receive a confirmation email with the Zoom link to attend, including a Passcode, which will be required when you join at the time of the meeting.
4) Separately from registering to attend, to READ IN THE OPEN, please send an email to: dgorman[at]astorialic[dot]org
(Signups may be allowed at the beginning of the event, depending on time. & depending on number of readers, we hope to allow 2-3 poems of reasonable length & subject matter. If reading in another language + its English translation–as we did last year—consider as 2 pieces, please.)
Launched by the Academy of American Poets in April 1996, National Poetry Month is a special occasion that celebrates poets’ integral role in our culture & that poetry matters. Over the years, it has become the largest literary celebration in the world, with tens of millions of readers, students, teachers, librarians, booksellers, literary events curators, publishers, families, &—of course—poets, marking poetry’s important place in our lives.
