Classical Concert: Folk and Dance from around the world

Queens’ Alegría Ensemble presents global folk & dance tunes in Forest Park
QUEENS, NY — The Alegría Ensemble returns this summer with the second concert in its joyful seasonal series, curated by violinist and ensemble founder Chloë Dickens. Taking place on Tuesday, August 5 at 7:00 PM at the historic Oak Ridge House in Forest Park, the concert offers a vibrant celebration of folk and dance music from around the world.
The program showcases traditional and reimagined music from Denmark, the United States, Wales, England, Germany, and Mexico, highlighting rhythm, storytelling, and the shared human impulse to move and connect through music.
“This series is all about connection—between cultures, communities, and musicians,” says Dickens. “Folk music in particular reminds us that music lives in the heart, in storytelling, and in everyday life.”
She adds, “You don’t need to know anything about classical music to enjoy this concert. It’s going to be a fun, relaxed evening with beautiful tunes from around the world. Whether you’re five or eighty-five, there’s something here for everyone!”
Known for its engaging, accessible performances, the Alegría Ensemble has been praised for “delighting audiences of all ages” and earning “rave reviews from the New York Daily News” for its fresh, energetic approach to chamber music.
