Clarence James at the National Arts Club

A self-taught artist working in Washington, D.C., Clarence James brings his graffiti style into vibrant canvases using acrylic, aerosol, pastel, Krink markers, and found materials. Along with inspiration from Black Artists like Jacob Lawrence, Romare Bearden, and Kerry James Marshall, James takes on portraiture identity and communicates his experience in Basquiat-like hieroglyphics.
