The Tuesday Morning Music Club of Douglaston will present a free concert of classical music on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at 11:00 AM.   The concert will feature a program presented by flutist Jonah Murphy, who was the winner of the Club’s 2022 Young Artist Competition.  Mr. Murphy will present a recital featuring music by CPE Bach, JS Bach, James Cohn, Charles Koechlin, Adam Sisler, and Sigfried Karg-Elert.

Jonah Murphy studies flute and composition at the Manhattan School of Music. Honors in flute performance include awards from New York Flute Club Competition (first prize), Alexander & Buono International Flute Competition, and (twice) the Lillian Fuchs Competition in chamber performance. He has participated in masterclasses with Stefan Hoskuldsson, Nicholas Duchamp, Mark Sparks, and others. Also an active composer, Mr. Murphy has won awards from ASCAP, YoungArts, and the Chamber Music Society of Rochester [NY]. His works have been played by PubliQuartet, the Mivos Quartet, Manhattan Brass Quintet, and other ensembles. His teachers are Mr. Michael Parloff (flute) and Dr. J. Mark Stambaugh (composition).

The concert will take place at the Community Church of Douglaston, 39-50 Douglaston Parkway, Douglaston, NY.  Admission is free and open to the public; no tickets are required.  Please note that all audience members must provide proof of Covid vaccination and wear a mask – no exceptions.

Since 1921, the Tuesday Morning Music Club of Douglaston has enhanced the cultural life of its membership and the community by presenting the finest of musical works and performers to its audience of general members and guests.  The club also provides scholarship assistance to talented and worthy student musicians.  Guests are invited to become members to help the Club continue this important cultural tradition.
