if you are looking for a full day of art, music and creative experiences that also celebrate the rich diversity of Queens, then mark your calendar for Saturday, September 21, noon- 5:00pm (rain date Sunday, September 22). Come to the urban village of Kew Gardens Queens to enjoy the 10th anniversary of Kew Gardens Community Arts Day taking place where Austin Street and Leffert’s Boulevard cross, as well as in the patio and garden of Austin’s Ale House on Austin Street (82-70 Austin Street) . For the first time this year’s event is being co-hosted by Austin’s Ale House in their outdoor patio spaces. www.austinsteakandalehouse.com
As in past years the entire neighborhood will be turned into a multiple arts experience. The centerpiece of the event is the perennial favorite arts and crafts show and sale: “Kew Gardens Outdoor Art Fair”. Music by the “Kew Gardens Musicians” will feature a popular mix of music genres in Kew Gardens Cinemas Park on Austin Street off Lefferts Blvd from noon to 4pm.
Activities for the kids take center stage further along Lefferts Boulevard at the Art Zone where Grenfell Street and 83 Avenue meet. Kids (and their parents !) will have an opportunity to learn – and get hands on- with a wide variety of craft projects and art forms. There they will also meet reptiles and exotic Insects brought by the Alley Pond Environmental Center. The Urban Park Rangers and Queens Parks Department will bring arts, crafts and nature to the event. Kew & Willow Books (81-63 Lefferts Blvd) will be hosting a Stenciled Edges Book Decorating Activity from 1-3pm.
As always this 10th celebration of Kew Gardens Community Arts Day will be an open and welcoming event with a small-town feel!
